For more than two decades, Jeph Wright has built a reputation for combining technical precision with artistic creativity. As the Owner & Creative Director of BlacktheSalon, which he has proudly led for the past 17 years, Jeph has created a space where exceptional hair, genuine hospitality, and personal connection come together. For the last 10 years, BLACK has called Detroit's historic Corktown neighborhood home, where Jeph has been proud to become part of—and help shape—the city's vibrant creative community.
With over 24 years behind the chair, Jeph has trained throughout North America and Europe alongside some of the industry's most respected artists and educators. Prior to opening BLACK, he held positions as a Platform Artist, National Head Coach, and North American Creative Director for several globally recognized beauty brands, helping develop education programs and pioneering innovative cutting and styling techniques while working extensively throughout Europe and North America.
What truly sets Jeph apart, however, isn't simply his experience—it's his philosophy. Every guest who sits in his chair receives an experience tailored specifically to them. Whether it's a subtle refinement or a dramatic transformation, Jeph believes exceptional hair should reflect the individuality, confidence, and lifestyle of the person wearing it.
Before becoming a hairstylist, Jeph earned a Bachelor's Degree in Plastics Engineering Technology. That engineering mindset continues to influence every haircut he creates, blending structure, balance, and precision with creativity and artistry. It's this uncommon combination of technical thinking and artistic vision that has become his signature.
Outside the salon, Jeph is equally passionate about craftsmanship. He designs and builds award-winning custom motorcycles and creates handcrafted leather goods—creative pursuits that demand the same attention to detail, quality, and dedication he brings to every guest at BLACK.
For Jeph, hairstyling has never been just about hair. It's about helping people feel confident, authentic, and empowered while creating an experience they'll look forward to every time they visit.
